Edward Witt

A Foundation Built in Erie

Edward Witt was born and raised in Erie, Pennsylvania, where sports, music, education, and family played important roles in his early life. He attended Catholic schools for 12 years, including an all-boys preparatory school during his high school years.

Hockey became part of Edward’s life when he was five years old. He spent much of his childhood competing on travel teams, earned an MVP award, and progressed to Junior A hockey during his senior year of high school. His abilities on the ice ultimately helped him earn a college scholarship.

Music developed alongside athletics as another lasting interest. After beginning piano lessons, Edward became increasingly interested in performing and played in rock bands during his younger years. Both hockey and music would remain significant parts of his life long after he entered medicine.

Three Decades in Medicine

Edward pursued medical school and completed a Family Practice residency before beginning a medical career that would span approximately 30 years. His professional experience included work with Huntsville Hospital, Crestwood Hospital, and Maryvale Hospital in Phoenix, Arizona.

Over time, Edward moved beyond practicing medicine into clinic ownership and entrepreneurship. He owned and operated Southcare Clinic, an aesthetic clinic, and Recovery Center, bringing together medical knowledge with an emphasis on service and the patient experience.

Across these ventures, Edward viewed medicine as more than treating a condition. He placed significant importance on listening to patients, educating others, building trust, and treating people with respect. He credits that focus on customer service and personal relationships as an important part of the success of his clinics.

Although retired from full-time practice, Edward continues to own Recovery Center and occasionally returns to help when needed.

Supporting the Road to Recovery

Addiction recovery became one of the most meaningful areas of Edward Witt’s medical work. Through Recovery Center, he has supported individuals during the difficult early stages of recovery, helping them pursue sobriety and establish the support necessary to keep moving forward.

For Edward, effective care has always involved recognizing the individual behind the medical chart. His approach emphasizes education, encouragement, consistency, and genuine human connection. Helping patients remain in recovery and rebuild their lives has become an important part of his professional legacy.

A Lifelong Connection to Hockey

Hockey has remained a constant throughout Edward’s life. After years of competitive play and collegiate hockey, he continued his involvement in the sport after settling in Alabama, including spending time as a coach.

Even after his competitive years, Edward never completely left the ice behind. He has participated in hockey-related charitable and alumni events, including skating through the Penguins Foundation and at alumni events in Montreal.

The discipline, teamwork, preparation, and relationships that came through hockey have influenced Edward well beyond the rink.

The Doctor Behind the Music

Edward’s other lifelong passion, music, eventually intersected with his career in medicine in an unusual way.

At Huntsville’s Civic Center, Edward became known as the “Rock Doc,” providing medical care for entertainers and touring acts coming through the city. His experiences brought him into contact with performers including Bob Dylan, The Moody Blues, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Train, Matchbox Twenty, Chicago, Bryan Adams, Elton John, Hall & Oates, Stone Temple Pilots, Heart, Rod Stewart, and many others.

He also provided medical support to artists during portions of their touring careers. For Edward, these experiences created a natural intersection between two areas that had fascinated him since childhood: medicine and music.

Service Through Everyday Actions

Edward’s approach to helping others extends beyond his professional work. His philanthropy is often personal and direct, whether paying for someone’s groceries or providing food, clothing, or financial assistance to someone in need.

That same outlook has guided much of his life: treat people well, work hard, share knowledge, and offer help when there is an opportunity to make a difference.

Life Today

Now retired from full-time medical practice, Edward continues to enjoy the interests that have followed him throughout his life. Hockey and music remain central passions, while golf and trail-bike riding give him additional ways to stay active.

Above all, Edward values the relationships he has built through medicine, sports, music, and his personal life. His career may have crossed several different worlds, but a consistent theme connects them: caring for people and forming genuine relationships along the way.
